CONWAY, S.C. The Coastal Carolina University womens soccer program has signed 11 student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent, head coach Rohan Naraine announced March 14. Joining Coastal in the fall of 2007 will be Amy Haggard (Sylva, N.C./Smoky Mountain), Kelsey Havell (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), Lauren Kies (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthonys), Erin Lusk (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond), Sara Niles (Elgin, Ill./Elgin), Karen Pavlick (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley), Colleen Schohl (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), Mallory Sterba (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake), Tiana Tallant (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern), Anna Tupy (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) and Maggie Wilding (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette).
Haggard, a goalkeeper, was a First Team All-Western Athletic Conference member her junior season at Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, N.C. She was named a team captain for the second straight season in 2007, which takes place in the spring. She has three varsity letters in soccer and also played volleyball and basketball for the Mustangs, earning First Team all-conference honors in basketball and Honorable Mention all-WAC in volleyball. Haggard played club soccer for the Smoky Mountain Soccer Club from 2004-06.
Havell, a midfielder/defender, is a three-year starter at Buffalo Grove High School in Arlington Heights, Ill. She was an All-MId Suburban East player her freshman year and an All-Area Honorable Mention her sophomore season for the Bison. Havell also played basketball and volleyball at Buffalo Grove. She had eight goals her sophomore season and 11 more her junior campaign. She also has been the team captain the last three seasons. Havell played club soccer for KUFC Premier, the 2005 US Soccer National Champions and the 2006 runner-up. She was on the Honor Roll for seven semesters at Buffalo Grove.
Kies, a forward/midfielder, was a two-year starter for St. Anthonys High School in South Huntington, N.Y. She scored 13 goals her junior season for the Friars, who were ranked nationally by Sports Illustrated in 2006. She helped the Friars to the League and State Championship her junior season and was named to the Exceptional Seniors Team her senior season. Kies played club soccer for the Long Island Select ODP for five years and was on the nationally ranked East Meadow Magic Soccer Club. Kies also played lacrosse and basketball at St. Anthonys and is the younger sister of Lindsay Kies, who played soccer at Coastal in 2005.
Lusk, a forward/midfielder, was a four-year starter for New Richmond High School in New Richmond, Ohio. She was the teams Offensive Player of the Year her senior season and was named to the Division II Southwest All-Star Team her past two seasons. She was the Lions leading scorer her junior season. Lusk played club soccer for the Beechmont SC Premier for seven seasons and has played for Dallas Inter and Select Soccer in Atlanta, Ga., for one and two years, respectively. Lusk also is an Honor Roll student at New Richmond.
Niles, a midfielder, is a three-year starter at Elgin High School in Elgin, Ill. She is captain of the Maroons for her senior season and was the teams Most Valuable Player her junior season. She is a two-time All-Upstate Eight and a Daily Herald All-Area First Team selection and was an All-Sectional Honorable Mention in 2005. Niles also played basketball and volleyball at Elgin and was an all-conference performer in basketball her senior season. She played with Kelsey Havell for the KUFC Premier club soccer team from 2005-07 and helped the team win a US Soccer National Championship in 2005. Niles is a National Honor Society member at Elgin and a three-time Academic All-Upstate Eight member.
Pavlick, a goalkeeper, is a three-year varsity letterwinner at Minisink Valley High School in Slate Hill, N.Y. She was the teams co-captain and starting goalkeeper her senior season and helped the Warriors to a Section IX sectional final. Her team won the Section IX Conference her sophomore and junior seasons. Pavlick helped the Town of Wallkill Red Devils to an Empire Cup final in 2006 and a KSC Tournament championship in October of 2006. Pavlick is a member of Minisink Valleys National Honor Society and is an Honor Roll student.
Schohl, a defender/midfielder, is a four-year letterwinner at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School in Broadview Heights, Ohio. She was named to the All-Southwestern Conference First Team and was an All-Greater Cleveland Third Team member her senior season for the Bees. She helped Brecksville to an SWC championship and a sectional championship in 2006. Her team has won three conference championship and was a runner-up her junior season. Schohl was an Athlete of the Week by the Sun Newspapers her senior season and led the team in assists her sophomore campaign. She played club soccer for the Internationals Soccer Club from 1998-2004 and helped the team to six State Championships and two National Indoor Championships. Schohl is a National Honor Society member and a four-year Honor Roll student.
Sterba, a defender, was a two-time captain at Westlake High School in Westlake, Ohio. She was a First Team All-Southwestern Conference member and a Second Team All-Greater Cleveland member her senior season. Sterba lettered in soccer for four years and also played basketball her sophomore and junior seasons. She started every game for the Demons three out of four years and missed time due to injury her junior season. She also helped Westlake to an SWC championship her sophomore season. Sterba played for Ohio North ODP for four years and helped her Super Y League team to a fifth-place finish at nationals in 2004. She was an All-Academic Regional Team member in 2006 and is part of Westlakes National Honor Society and well as being a four-year member of the Honor Roll.
Tallant, a midfielder/forward, led Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C., in assists her junior season. She is a three-time York County All-Area team and was the teams Most Valuable Player in 2006. Tallant was an All-Region III member in 2004 and earned the schools Top Trojan Award that same year. Tallant also ran cross country and played basketball for the Trojans. She played club soccer for SC ODP Northside Soccer Club and helped them win the Carowinds Invitational and the Atlanta Cup in 2005. Tallant is a National Honor Society member at Northwestern and is a member of the Beta Cup.
Tupy, a forward, was an-All District Second Team member her junior season at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, Va. She was a First Team All-District honoree and was on the All-Region Team and the Honorable Mention All-Met team her freshman team. She also was the leading scorer in the district in 2004. She also played field hockey for the Eagles and was a First Team All-Distict member her senior season. Tupy played club soccer for the VISTA Hotshots from 2004-07, helping them to a runner-up state finish in 2005 and a semifinal berth in nationals in 2006. Tupy also was on the Honor Roll for three years at Thomas Edison.
Wilding, a midfielder, was a First Team All-District member her junior season at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Va. She helped the Rams to a District championship, a Regional final and a State quarterfinal berth in 2006. She also earned First Team All-District and Region honors her first two seasons and is a three-year starter for the Rams. Wilding played field hockey for Lafayette, earning First Team All-District and All-Region honors her sophomore season. Wilding has been on the Honor Roll from 2003-07.
Coastal (13-6-1) tied a school record with 13 wins in 2006 and finished in second place in the Big South regular season with a 6-2 record.
