FOLEY, ALA. - After an incredible run in its first year as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, the second-seeded Coastal Carolina women's soccer team's season came to an end Sunday, falling 2-0 to top seed South Alabama in the Sun Belt Championship.

Coastal (12-6-3) concluded the season with its best finish since the 2008 campaign.

South Alabama's Jemma Purfield, the Sun Belt's Player and Defender of the Year, tallied two second half goals to propel the Jaguars to the team's fourth-straight Sun Belt Championship.

A defensive battle from both sides kept the teams scoreless throughout the first half. CCU Senior goaltender Becca Austin (10-5-3) took commanded on the backline to make several key saves to keep CCU in the game.

In the eighth minute, South Alabama's Charde Hannah charged up the middle to go 1-v-1 with Austin, but a diving save from the senior goalie kept it scoreless.

Coastal began to piece together an attack, creating several goal-scoring opportunities late in the first half. A wild cross from the left flank found the feet of Kayla Christian but the shot attempt was drilled wide of the frame.

Eight minutes later, Melanie Flatter sent a deep ball behind the USA's backline to put Amber Adams 1-v-1 with the Jaguar goalie. Adams blasted a shot from 25-yards out but the shot sailed high.

As the second half began, South Alabama came out recording three attempts within the first 10 minutes to give them momentum.

In the 57th minute, South Alabama got on the board to take a 1-nil lead. Driving down the left flank, Purfield cut towards the center of the field and drilled the ball into the lower left corner.

The Jaguars found the back of the net again in the 85th minute for a 2-0 lead. Purfield was on the ball once again as she curved the ball into the net from the corner kick.

Coastal fought to the end as it recorded three consecutive shots but each time came up empty.

The match marked the end for seven Chanticleer seniors --Adams, Austin, Flatter, Ellie Taylor, Sam Patterson, Hanna Johannsdottir and Brittany Temple.
