Chanticleers Fall to Appalachian State
Boone, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team fell to Appalachian State 1-0, in Boone, in its final regular season match of the season.
The loss drops the Chanticleers to 9-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play, while the Mountaineers improved to 4-10-4 and 3-5-2 in Sun Belt action.
Appalachian State, needing a victory to become the eighth seed in the upcoming Sun Belt tournament, came out the aggressor pushing the tempo. Sarah Moon got the eventual game-winning tally, in the 34th minute by pushing a shot past a diving Rylee Atteberry.
Coastal had a couple of opportunities to score on their own, Daniella Famili with a header in the 21st minute and Mackenzie Gibbs with a header in the 44th minute but was unable to sneak either by goalkeeper Taylor Ray.
The Mountaineers outshot the Chants in the match 14-10 and the teams were even in corner kicks with three each.
The Chanticleers were only able to get three shots in the second half, with the best opportunity by Kayla Christian shot bouncing off the crossbar in the 71st minute.
Montanna Hill and Famili led the Chants with three shots each, followed by Christian and Gibbs with two.
Coastal Carolina will return to action in the Sun Belt tournament, in Foley, Ala., (Nov.1-5).
