CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team cruised past South Carolina State, 3-0, notching its 10th shutout of the season Wednesday evening at the CCU Soccer Stadium. Coastal improved to 10-5-2 on the season.

The 10 shutout is second-best total in CCU history behind the 2013 squad that record 11 shutouts over 20 games. Senior Becca Austin started in goal for the Chanticleers and earned the victory. She faced only one shot before sophomore Morgan Divine took over in the second half to finish out the match.

Coastal outshot the Bulldogs 14-1 including a 7-0 shots on goal advantage and 8-3 in corner kicks. Ambria Shutts led the Chants with four shots, including two on frame.

The Chanticleers took a 1-nil lead in the 29th minute of the first half. Freshman Alexis Magruder came off the bench for CCU and made an immediate impact within her first minute of play. A CCU corner kick from Kendall Parks found the foot of Magruder who hammered it home for the lead.

The Bulldogs only opportunity came early in the first half but the attempt went high of the goal. Coastal took command early scoring seven minutes into the second half. After drawing a foul just outside the penalty area, Daniella Famili lined up to take the kick. Famili drilled the ball into the bottom right corner to score.

In the 70th minute, Amber Adams gave Coastal a 3-nil lead. Ellie Taylor served the ball into the box from a corner kick finding Adams on the back post who volley it past her defender to score.

NEXT UP

The Chanticleers play their last regular season home game Sunday, October 23 versus UL Lafayette. Kickoff is set for noon. Prior to the game, the CCU women's soccer team will honor the seven members of the 2016 senior class.
