Adams Leads Coastal Over Asheville 3-1
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team defeated UNC-Asheville 3-1 in Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon. Amber Adams dished out two goals and tallied one assist to lead the Chants over the Bulldogs.
The Chanticleers improve their record to a 9-5-1 overall and 5-1-1 in league play. The bulldogs dropped to a 10-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the league.
Coastal struck first in the early minutes of the game giving them the 1-0 lead. Kayla Christian was looking for a shot on goal but Asheville keeper, Lily Brown got her hands on it then dropped the ball right on the goal line for Adams to run through it to push the ball in for the goal.
As play continued the Chanticleer defense only allowed three shots in the first half containing the Bulldogs until the final minute of the half. The Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net off a 20-yard shot from outside the box by Caroline Houser to tie the game.
The Chants wasted no time in the second half scoring goal number two in the 46th minute to take back the lead. Abby Gashel ignited the play sending a cross in finding Adams at the top of the box. With one touch, Adams sent a driven shot over the keepers head bouncing off the cross bar to tally her second goal of the game. Adams now has four goals on the 2015 campaign.
Just 15 minutes later, Coastal found the back of the net for goal number three. Christian sent a ball to the back post finding Adams but she hits if off the cross bar bouncing back into play. Daniella Famili was there for the rebound to pass it in. This was Famili's seventh goal of the season and 10th of her career.
Leading the defense from behind was Becca Austin recording three saves on the day while the defense only allowed five shots the entire game. Coastal finished the game recording 19 shots, with Adams leading the team with five on the day. Nine other Chanticleers were able to record shots as well.
The Chanticleers return to action this Wednesday to take on the Radford Highlanders at home. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
