Chanticleers Down Georgia State
CONWAY - A trio of Chanticleers found the back of the net to lead the Coastal Carolina women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Georgia State Thursday evening, in Sun Belt action.
The win improved the Chants' record to 9-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 3-8-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the Sun Belt.
The first half action saw a lot of back-and-forth action, with Georgia State outshooting Coastal 4-to-3. However, in the 43rd minute, Coastal struck first. Montanna Hill fed a streaking Elisabeth Rockhill, who pushed a shot by a diving Brie Haynes to give CCU the 1-nil lead going into halftime.
The Panthers would knot the game early in the second half (53:48). Kayla Ruiz was able to control a rebounding ball from a failed clear by the Chants defense scored to make it a 1-1 contest.
Kendall Parks made her presence known by centering a corner kick in the 68th minute. Kylie Bostick was on the receiving end and punched a shot past the Georgia State goalie, for the eventual game-winning goal and 2-to-1 advantage.
On the evening Coastal would out-shoot the Panthers 10-to-8 and held a 6-to-3 advantage in corner kicks. Famili led the way with three shots, followed by Rockhill with two. Five other Chants would put a shot towards the goal.
The Chanticleers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8, as they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves. Kickoff is scheduled for noon (CT).
