Women's Soccer Falls to Richmond 3-0

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (1-4) fell to Richmond (2-3) in game three of the Longwood Tournament Sept. 6 in Farmville, Va.

Richmond had all 11 shots in the first half, scoring two goals to take the halftime lead. Shondel Archer picked up a loose ball and scored from six yards out at 24:38 to give the Spiders a 1-0 lead. Archer then was fouled in the box at 37:01, which led to a penalty kick. Kristen Stalter then converted on the penalty kick for a 2-0 Richmond lead. Junior Amy Haggard (Sylva, N.C./Smoky Mountain) had one save in the first 45 minutes, while both teams had one corner kick.

Richmond scored its final goal at 54:50 when Emily Dale fed Archer on a corner kick. Archer put it in the back of the net for her second goal of the game.

Richmond outshot Coastal Carolina 12-3 and held a 4-1 corner-kick advantage. Archer led the Spiders with six shots, while seniors Dana Gentile (Utica, N.Y./Herkimer C.C.) and Samantha Teijelo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and junior Maggie Wilding (Williamsburg, Va./Lafeytte) had shots on goal for the Chanticleers.

Haggard ended the game with one save, while Allie Albright had two saves in 22 minutes of action.

Coastal Carolina is at Elon Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
