BOONE, N.C. - In a statistically-even match, it was a goal by Katy Dodd in the 63rd minute that was the difference in Appalachian State's (2-1) 1-0 win over the Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team (1-2) Sept. 2 in Boone, N.C.
Both teams had nine shots and 13 fouls on the night. Junior Amy Haggard (Sylva, N.C./Smoky Mountain) had four saves on the night, while Appalachian State's Caroline Clarke stopped five shots. Dodd scored her goal at 62:49 into the match on an assist by Michelle Jewell. It was her first goal of the season.
Senior Sarah McPartlan (Crystal Lake, Ill./Loyola (Ill.)) led the Chanticleers with four shots, two of which were on goal. Meggie Graham and Paige Morrow led the Mountaineers with two shots apiece.
Coastal Carolina will participate in the Longwood Tournament Friday, Sept. 4. The Chanticleers will face the host Longwood at 7:30 p.m., in Farmville, Va.
