Chanticleers Fall Short 2-1 Versus Elon
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team suffered a defeat on its home turf falling 2-1 to Elon Thursday evening.
Coastal moved to a 2-2-1 overall record. It was an even playing field throughout the match with each team totaling seven shots apiece. Amber Adams and Montanna Hill lead the Chants in shots each totaling two.
Elon's Susannah Anderson gave the Phoenix the lead in the 33rd minute. Following a corner kick the ball was pushed out to the right flank with Bria Bass on the ball. Bass sent the ball into the mix finding Kendall Ballotti who headed it down for Anderson to volley in.
The Chanticleers earned a free kick from about 50-yards out with Ambria Shutts on the ball. Shutts sent the ball high towards the back post where Montanna Hill towered over her defender to flick the ball past the goaltender to even the score at one apiece.
The teams traded offensive attacks through most of the second half until Elon took a 2-1 in the 76th minute. In chaotic moment in the box from 12-yards out, Erin Tanhauser slide the ball past the defense finding the net for goal number two.
Coastal continued to push on offense looking for goal but came up empty. Daniella Famili had a great scoring opportunity after beating her defender finding herself 1v1 with the goalie on the right side of the goal but the shot was saved.
The Chanticleers welcome College of Charleston Sunday with the match also slated to start at 6 p.m. The match will stream live on the Chanticleer Sports Network.
