Chanticleers Fall to Charlotte 49ers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday falling to the Charlotte 49ers by a 4-1 decision.
The 49ers put on the pressure early and scored in the sixth minute to take the lead. Niner's Megan McCallister received the ball on the flank and beat two Chanticleers to put it away.
The Chanticleers offense created two good scoring opportunities following the Niner's goal but both shots by Camille Christie were unable to find the net.
Five minutes later, the Chants tied it up in the 17th minute. Junior Ellie Taylor recorded her first goal of the season from a cross sent into the box by Brittany Temple. Taylor was able to gain control and slide one past the 49ers goalkeeper.
The remainder of the half was back and forth play between the two teams.
Chants were unable to contain the 49ers offense who recorded 15 shots throughout the second half. The 49ers capitalized on three opportunities to put them up 4-1. Charlotte controlled much of the second half from that point on.
Becca Austin came up big for the Chants recording 10 saves, 5 saves in each half, giving her a total of 59 career saves.
The Chanticleers will return to action this Friday the 28th at 7 p.m. to take on Georgia Southern for their home opener.
