Coastal Shuts Out Wofford 4-0 in Home Opener
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team captured its first victory of the 2016 campaign as they shutout Wofford 4-0 on its home turf, Sunday afternoon.
Four different Chanticleers accounted for the goals to secure their shutout win as they out-shot Wofford 14-5.
The Chanticleers settled in early on controlling most of the play. Sophomore Kayla Christian put Coastal on the board in the 21st minute off an unassisted goal. Dribbling down the right flank, Christian slid the ball over goaltender Alex Carroll, netting the ball to take the lead.
Senior Amber Adams added to the Chants' lead scoring CCU's second goal in the 52nd minute. After beating her defender, Adams dribbled through the middle touching the ball just outside the keepers reach to pass it in.
Minutes later, the Chanticleers continued its offensive force notching goal number three. Freshman Alexis Siegel netted her first goal as a Chanticleer in the 55th minute. After a cross came in from the right flank, Adams flicked it on towards Siegel who collectively placed the ball in the right corner to score.
In the 74th minute, Freshman Alexis Magruder drew a foul in the box as they challenged an a ball in the air. Magruder converted on the penalty kick to also score her first goal as a Chanticleer, improving the Chanticleers lead 4-0.
The Chanticleers will return to action this Friday, Aug. 26, traveling to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on the Winthrop Eagles at 6pm.
