Coastal Carolina Falls in Exhibition with High Point
The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team dropped their only exhibition match of the year against its former Big South opponent High Point, 2-0. Coastal lead in corner kicks 3-2, but was unable to connect on any of the eight shots on the night with the majority going high or wide. “A typical first game for us, we got some areas to improve upon,” stated head coach Paul Hogan. “We are trying to replace three seniors from last year and it is going to take some time. Midfield did some good things up front and had some good moments. I am happy with the effort we gave tonight, now we need to sit down tonight and tomorrow morning, watch some film and get a good grasp on the things we need to improve upon.” Newcomer Lauren Dabner was able to get two solid looks on goal but both shots ended up just wide in the early going of the match. The Panthers found the back of the net in the 20th minute when Alex Denny pushed a shot past the Chanticleer defense for the first goal of the game 1-0. Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Daniella Famili pushed a shot just wide in the 47th minute that would have knotted the match up. High Point put pressure on the Chanticleer defense the rest of the match, keeping the ball in the Panthers’ offensive zone. Bri Jean-Charles took advantage as she scored (54th minute) on a failed clear attempt with an assist from Michele Micciche. The Chants offense was unable to muster a rally towards the end of the match, highlighted by a Noah Stokes shot that was blocked by a Panther defender. Coastal Carolina will open up the regular season August 18 in Spartanburg, S.C. when it takes on Wofford.
