CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse head coach Jaime Sellers has announced the team’s 2013 fall schedule, which includes three play days on the road, one play day at CCU and a scrimmage against Big South opponent Campbell. In addition, Sellers announced that Kaitlyn Trodden, Lily Yednock and Charlotte O’Leary will be the three captains of the 2013-14 Chanticleers.

“We are thrilled to be back on campus for year two of Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse, and to name our captains for the beginning of fall conditioning and practice,” Sellers said. “In our efforts to build a program from the ground up, leadership has proven to be a critical role in establishing success from the get-go. Lily, Charlotte, and Kaitlyn all possess great leadership qualities as well as an unrelenting desire to see this program flourish.

We are proud of the progress our program made in year one and are excited to see how our 12 new players complement the returning team dynamic and play. Our fall competition dates will give us an opportunity to evaluate what new systems and strategies we will be able to implement in the coming year.”

The Chanticleers will begin their preseason schedule on the road, traveling to Winthrop on Sept. 22 followed by a play day at High Point on Oct. 5. The team will then travel to Wilmington, N.C. on Oct. 12 to scrimmage Campbell at Cape Fear Academy. On Oct. 13, the Chants will host their own play day before closing out the preseason schedule with a final play day at Duke on Oct. 27.

Coastal’s fall roster will feature 20 returning players from the Chants’ inaugural season. Joining the returners will be 12 newcomers, who will look to contribute to a team that finished the 2013 season ranked No. 11 in the nation in ground balls per game, No. 26 in the nation in caused turnovers per game and No. 35 in the nation in draw controls per game.

Among those returning are second-year co-captains Trodden and Yednock. Trodden started 11 games on defense, notching 10 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injury. Yednock’s season also ended early due to injury, but her team-leading 37 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers, as well as her 16 points on offense, earned her second team all-conference honors. In addition, Yednock was named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year.

O’Leary was named the team’s third co-captain, filling the vacancy left by last year’s lone senior, Stephanie Torosian. O’Leary played all 16 games at midfield for Coastal, scoring 20 goals and providing 10 helpers to finish third on the team in total points with 30. She also tabbed 25 ground balls, 26 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.

The Chanticleers, who recently received IWLCA Academic Squad honors, enter the fall preseason after finishing their inaugural season 5-11.
