Selvage Names New Assistant Coach
CONWAY - Rainey Hodgson has been named assistant lacrosse coach at Coastal Carolina, Chanticleer head coach Kristen Selvage announced Wednesday.
Hodgson, a four-year letter winner at Ohio State from 2013-16, comes to Coastal after serving as a student assistant coach for the Buckeyes during the 2017 season.
Hodgson, a West Islap, N.Y., native will primarily focus on midfield, center draws and small game offensive situations.
"Our Chanticleers are incredibly excited about the addition of Hodgson to our coaching staff," Selvage said. "Hodgson will bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our program from her time at Ohio State. I am beyond pleased with her ability to command a crowd and get our players excited."
Hodgson assisted the coaching staff with logistical and operational needs during practice and games this past season, while serving as a valuable mentor to team members, on and off the field.
Hodgson played in 56 games with 32 starts during her four-year career. She served as co-captain in her senior season when she helped Ohio State set program records with its 11-1 start, a nine-game winning streak and a No. 8 national ranking.
Hodgson finished second in the Big Ten in assists (1.8), third in points (3.8) and fourth in ground balls (1.7) per game in 2016. She earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors after she recorded a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists as Ohio State knocked off Penn State at home on Senior Day.
Over her career, she recorded 119 points on 69 goals and 50 assists, which is tied for eighth all-time at Ohio State, and scooped up 53 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers. Her senior class recorded 45 wins over the last four years, tying for the most all-time with the 2015 seniors. She also played a key role in helping the Buckeyes to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015.
Hodgon received her Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy from Ohio State in May of 2017.
