Alexander, O'Leary Named to All-Tournament Team
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Coastal Carolina midfielders Haley Alexander and Charlotte O'Leary were named to the 2016 Big South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament Team, the league announced Saturday.
Alexander, a native of Bel Air, Md., opened the eight-team single elimination tournament with an impressive performance on April 30 against Liberty, lifting Coastal to a 9-8 victory with two goals and a pair of draw controls won.
In the semifinals on May 5 against Winthrop, the freshman standout scored a team-high two goals and scooped a ground ball.
Alexander, who started in all 18 of Coastal's games in 2016, finished her inaugural season in a Chants uniform with 27 goals and 10 assists.
O'Leary, a senior from Holderness, N.H., notched a goal and an assist and scooped up three ground balls in Coastal's opening round victory over Liberty. Additionally, she caused two turnovers and won three draw controls.
Her 2016 campaign included strong play on both sides of the ball, as she ranked second on the team in goals (35) and tied for first in caused turnovers (21).
After going 5-3 in conference play, the Chants drew the No. 4 seed for the 2016 Big South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship. They edged No. 5 Liberty, 9-8, in the opening round of the tournament, but fell to Winthrop, 8-4, in the semifinal round.
Winthrop downed High Point, 10-7, on May 7 in the 2016 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship Game.
