Charlotte, N.C. - Coastal Carolina Women’s Lacrosse had two student-athletes receive all-conference honors as the Big South announced its annual postseason awards on Monday. Sophomore midfielder Rachel Waldron was named a first-team alternate while sophomore Maddy Ciardi was named second-team all-conference on defense.

Waldron was a starter in 14 of the Chants’ games this season and played significant minutes in all 16. The Vienna, Va., native has been the most consistent Chanticleer in the center circle and leads the team in draw controls with 58, a new Coastal single-season record. Waldron additionally recorded a team-high 15 caused turnovers and ranks second for Coastal with 24 ground balls. Waldron was the first Chanticleer to receive the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week award, an honor that was bestowed upon her twice this season (March 3, 31).

Offensively, Waldron has tallied 15 points on 14 goals and one assist while putting 22 of her 26 shot attempts on frame for a .846 shots on goal percentage.

Ciardi is being named a second-team all-conference defender for the second consecutive season. The Montclaire, N.J., native is one of five Chants to have started every game this season, and anchored Coastal’s backline with 16 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and two draw controls. Ciardi has also only turned the ball over three times this season, the fewest of any player who has participated in 11 or more games.

Also among the women’s lacrosse award-winners is junior midfielder Lily Yednock, who earned honorable mention all-conference honors and was named to the conference’s all-academic team for the second consecutive year. Yednock currently holds a 3.964 cumulative GPA as a communications major.

Highpoint teammates Mackenzie Carroll and Jasmine Jordan were named the conference’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, while Panthers head coach Lyndsey Boswell was named the Coach of the Year. Jordan was additionally named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Midfielder Katherine Rueger of Davidson received Freshman of the Year honors.

Waldron, Ciardi and the Chanticleers will make their first-ever appearance in the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday when they travel to Winthrop for a 2 p.m. game at Eagle Field. The Chanticleers earned the fifth seed in the tournament after closing out the regular season 5-11, 3-4, while Winthrop’s record of 7-10, 4-3 earned the Eagles the league’s fourth seed.
