CONWAY - Throughout the spring, various Chanticleers will be posting blog updates, giving fans an inside look at the inaugural season of Chanticleer women's lacrosse. This post come from freshman goalie Trista Kuehn.

Hey Chants nation!

Wow has a lot happened in the past few weeks, where to start? Living with teammates and practicing with them everyday makes you pretty close, but I don't think we realized how tough being away from each other for an entire month over the holidays would be. It was so nice to be home for the holidays, but it was great getting back to see our favorite people again!

Being a Chant is about more than just being a student athlete, so after winter break we kicked things off right away with several members of the team helping out with a Habitat for Humanity project. They spent a day in the sun shingling a roof in Marion, S.C.!

After that, we started our first week of preseason and learned pretty quickly that it wasn't fall anymore. The fitness testing was challenging, both mentally and physically, and we all learned how to be a team that week. Between conditioning, lifting, and practice, we were all pretty sore but we were learning a lot. It was hard work, but definitely worth it in the end.

With practices going well, we started to look towards game day and putting motivational pieces in place to play. We partnered with a teammate in a program called Baby Chants, where each of us has one partner (baby Chant) for the season. Baby Chants are there to motivate and support their partner with notes, little gifts and words of encouragement. Shout out to my baby Chant KT! That was definitely a highlight of the past couple weeks.

With preseason winding down, we finally got to step foot in Brooks Stadium for some exhibition scrimmages this past Saturday. We played well and it was awesome to see how much progress we've made since the fall. It was like an entirely different team on the field, and you could definitely tell that all the fitness, lifting, and practice were paying off! Despite already being excited to start, playing in the stadium got us even more excited for February 15th, our opening day!

This week is our last week of preseason! The regular season is fast approaching and it can't come soon enough. We've all been busting it on the field and in the classroom, and we can't wait to show everyone how hard we've worked when we take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. Fall-ball, preseason, lifting, and conditioning have been tough but rewarding, and we can't wait to take on the new challenges of our first real season!

I'll see you in the stands watching us Chants take on the Bearcats on the 15th!

Chants, Love, & Lax,
