Lacrosse Picked 6th in Preseason Poll

The Chants begin their inaugural season Friday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at Brooks Stadium

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina's inaugural women's lacrosse team was picked sixth in the Big South Conference's preseason lacrosse poll, as announced by the league today.

High Point finished first in the voting with 63 points, receiving seven of the eight available first-place votes from the league's head coaches. Davidson received the final first-place vote and finished second in the voting with 55 points. Longwood took third with 40 points, Winthrop fourth with 36 points and Liberty fifth with 31 points. Coastal Carolina landed in sixth place with 28 points, followed by Presbyterian (23) and Campbell (12) to round out the conference.

Along with Campbell and Winthrop, Coastal will debut a first-year lacrosse program as the Big South Conference sponsors its first year of women's lacrosse competition. The five remaining schools competing in the conference formerly competed in the National Lacrosse Conference.

Led by head coach Jaime Sellers, the 2013 women's lacrosse team will feature one senior, one junior, three sophomores and 20 freshmen.

The 2013 schedule includes nine home games, beginning with the program's inaugural game against Cincinnati on Friday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
