Coastal Carolina Unable to Complete Comeback against Old Dominion

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team dropped a failed comeback attempt to the Old Dominion Monarchs 13-12, Sunday afternoon in Conway.

ODU started the match on fire scoring the first five goals before the Chanticleers answered with one of their own. Cydney Tutchton (four goals), Connor Carson (three goals), and Morgan Marrale (two goals) were the leading scorers for the Monarchs and got it all started in the first half.

Courtney Genovese (two goals, one assist) put the Chants on the board at the 15:17 mark in the first half, to close the gap 5-1.

ODU and CCU traded goals with Keri White getting her first of the game with 11:25 to go until halftime making the score 6-2 in favor of Old Dominion.

Haley Alexander (four goals, one assist) found the back of the net for her first of the match with 4:51 left, making the score at the half 8-3.

With 1:05 gone from the clock, Sophie Crowther put the Coastal on the board first in the second half cutting the lead in half at 8-4.

The Monarchs pushed the lead back to five, 9-4, on Marrale's second goal.

At the 25:40 mark, Alexander beat the ODU goalie for her second goal of the game to pull it back to four, 9-5.

Tutchton and Carson pushed the lead to six, the largest of the game, on back to back goals for 11-5 ODU lead.

Alexander and Hannah Krin (one goal) pulled the Chants within four, 11-7, allowing the Chanticleers to claw their way back into the match with 16:15 left in the game.

The Monarchs made it 12-7, when Sophia Richie found the back of the net pushing the lead back to five.

White (three goals) scored back to back goals starting a five goal to one run and allowing the Chants to tie the game at 12-12, after goals by Maggie Carr (one goal, three assists), Alexander, and Genovese.

With 1:08 left on the clock, ODU was score and proceed to kill the clock and comeback bid for CCU.

With the loss, the Chanticleers fall to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in ASUN, while the Monarchs improve to 6-5, and 2-2 in conference play.

The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to action on Thursday (April 13), at 4:-00 p.m., at Brooks Stadium in Conway to take on ASUN foe Howard.
