Chants Extend Streak, Defeat Longwood 9-8

Coastal Carolina has now won a program-best five consecutive games.

FARMVILLE, Va. - After a midseason break of nearly two weeks, the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team won its first conference game of the season and extended its program-best winning streak to five games with a  9-8 victory at Longwood on Saturday afternoon.

Junior attack Keri White netted the game-winning goal with 1:56 to play and broke what was an 8-8 tie. It was White's third goal of the afternoon and her fifth multiple-goal performance in the last six games. Additionally, sophomore midfielders Alicia Geiter and Maggie Carr contributed two goals for the Chanticleers.

All in all, the game saw three ties and two lead changes. Coastal jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 3:15 of the game and took a 5-3 lead into halftime. However, the Lancers scored three straight goals to start the second half and took a 6-5 lead at the 23:52 mark. Coastal then responded with three goals of its own and regained the lead, 8-6, before Longwood netted a pair to tie the score. White then scored the game winner less than one minute later.

With the win, Coastal improved to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in Big South play while Longwood fell to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in conference. It marked Coastal's first win against Longwood in three games.

The Chanticleers will remain on the road and continue the start of their conference schedule with a game at Liberty on Monday at 1 p.m. Coastal Carolina is 1-1 all-time against the Flames.
