Lacrosse Extends Win Streak to Three in Victory Over Kennesaw State

CONWAY - Sara Nolan scored four goals and tallied two assists and Charlotte O’Leary added four goals in Coastal Carolina’s 15-5 victory over Kennesaw State at Brooks Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Madeline Bromley (three goals) and Maggie Carr (one goal, five assists) were also key contributors on offense for the Chanticleers, who picked up their third straight victory after opening the season with back-to-back losses.

Coastal (3-2) scored early and often, opening a 10-3 lead by the midway mark. The Chanticleers showed off their balanced offense in the first half, with O’Leary, Nolan, Bromley, Courtney Genovese, Haley Alexander and Carr each finding the back of the net in the first 30 minutes of action.

Coastal kept the pressure on after the break, outscoring the Owls, 5-2, in the final frame. The Chants had the upper hand with 16 ground balls to 13, including a 9-5 edge in the opening half. Coastal also outshot Kennesaw State, 29-17, and had the advantage with 12 draw controls to 10.

Defensively, Coastal was led by O’Leary (four ground balls, two caused turnovers), Alexander (three ground balls, two caused turnovers) and Karley Barreno (two caused turnovers).

In net, Coastal’s Jenna Stover made four saves and allowed four goals, and Harley Barrett (four saves) relieved her in the final 14:33 of play and allowed just one goal. Elaine Bradley (three saves) and Alex Bunn combined for nine saves for Kennesaw State.

Lucy Mills, Monica Albertson, Haley Swift, Olivia Hokanson and Shannon Moore scored one goal apiece for the Owls, who fell to 0-6 on the young season.

Coastal’s next four games are on the road, as they travel to Ohio for a game against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday, March 19 at 6 p.m. After that, the Chants play Louisville on Sunday, March 20 at 12 p.m.
