Chanticleers Comeback Falls Short against George Mason
Fairfax, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse teams' comeback fell short against George Mason in Fairfax, as the Chants fell 10-9 to the Patriots.
Despite being outshot 16-9, CCU trailed just 6-3 against the Patriots, in the first half. Alexander (24:08), Kyger (20:08), and Madeline Bromley (8:15) paced the first half offense for Coastal.
The second half started with Alexander getting her second tally of the day and Kyger with the feed to cut the lead to 6-to-4 briefly. George Mason answered back with three goals to push the lead to 9-to-4 before the Chants answered back. Mason got the eventual game-winning goal from Chachi Kelehan(4 goals, 1 assist) with 8:13 left in regulation.
Coastal reeled off four unanswered goals from Alexander, Sophie Crowther (1 goal, 1 assist), Julia Imbo (1 goal), and Kyger making the score 10-9 in favor of GMU. As time was expiring, Kyger fired an attempt to knot the score but was thwarted by the Patriot goalkeeper making her 11th save of the day.
The Chanticleers return to action on Wednesday, March 7 as they travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on UMBC with a 5:00 p.m. scheduled opening draw.
