CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University women's golf head coach Katie Quinney has announced that Lena Schaeffner and Marissa Hinchman have signed national letters of intent to play for the Chanticleers at the start of the 2012-13 season.
"I'm very excited about the addition of these two great players to the 2012 class," Quinney said. "They both come with competitive experience and successes from the highest levels of competition which will help them achieve their goals at Coastal. They add to the talent we already have and they will complement our program very well."
Schaeffner, a native of Rettigheim, Germany, comes to Coastal ranked 38th in the World Junior Golf Rankings and first in the Baden Wuerttemberg State Girls Rankings. Additionally, Schaeffner is 26th in the German ladies' rankings and ninth in the German girls' rankings (18 and younger). She led Privalgymnasium St. Leon-Rot to consecutive German High School Championships in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Schaeffner placed 18th in the Swiss International Amateur Championship and turned in a sixth-place finish in the World Junior Golf Series United States Junior Master with a 54-hole score of 234. In August 2011, she carded a 68 in the final round of the Swiss International Amateurs Championship on her way to a sixth-place finish.
Hinchman, a senior at Lodi High School in Lodi, Calif., led the Flames to league and divisional championships all four years and was the individual champion three times. She also led to Lodi back-to-back appearances in the Northern California Championships in her junior and senior seasons. In 2011, Hinchman captured the event championship at the Junior Tour of Northern California at Foxtail Golf Club and was the overall winner of the Woodbridge Golf and Country Club Junior Championship.
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Feb. 12, 2012, when the squad travels to Sorrento, Fla., to defend its title at the UCF Invitational.
