WAYNESVILLE, N.C. Coastal Carolina's women's golf team set a new school record by eight strokes to lead after the opening round of the Catamount Intercollegiate.
The Lady Chanticleers first round score of 294 tops the former school record of 302 which was set earlier this year at the Bradford Creek Invitational. Coastal leads host Western Carolina by six strokes as the Catamounts' 300 is also a new school record. Coincidentally, Western Carolina set its previous 18-hole record of 305 at Bradford Creek this year as well.
Junior Morgan O'Banion leads the race for individual honors as she carded a career-best two-under-par 70. She leads Western Carolina's Line Cordes by one stroke entering Tuesday's final round.
O'Banion leads a pack of five other Lady Chanticleer golfers who all placed in the top 19 of the 60-golfer field. Freshman Tamara Page-Jones is fourth (73), Cheryl Seamans is fifth (74), Natalie Cruse and Kristen Hudson are tied for 15th (77) and Paige Landry is 19th (78). Hudson is competing in the tourney as an individual.
