Five Chants Receive WGCA All-American Scholar Accolades
Conway - Coastal Carolina women’s golf had five players, Stephanie Henning, Marie Lunackova, Barbora Bakova, Malene Hansen and Victoria Parker named to the 2016-17 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, released by the WGCA organization.
To be selected, the players had to maintain an overall grade point average of 3.50 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for the entirety of their collegiate career.
These were selected as five of the 952 women collegiate golfers who received the prestigious honor.
Hansen, a rising senior and the reigning Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golfer of the Year, led the Chants with four top-five and five top-10 finishes this season. Her 72.66 stroke average is the best single-season stroke average in the history of CCU women’s golf. It was her third WGCA All-American Scholar honor.
It was the second time for senior Barbaro Bakova to receive the award. She played in 34 events during her CCU career and finished with five top-five finishes and a career stroke average of 77.05.
It was also the second time sophomore Marie Lunackova had received the honor. She had a 75.12 stroke average on the season and finished the year being named to the All-Sun Belt Team.
Having five players named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team has only happened once in CCU history and that was in 2013 when the Chants also had five players receive the honor. This year’s total also brings the number to 41 CCU Women’s golfers that have received the award. The Chants had four players named in each of the past three years.
