PUEBLO, COLO. -- Coastal Carolina sophomore-to-be Ann Maness advanced in the top 64 through 36 holes of medal play, but lost her opening round match at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, June 21-22. The tournament is being played at the Walking Stick Golf Club in Pueblo, Colo.
After qualifying for the tournament in sectionals, Maness posted a 36-hole score in medal play of 10-over 154, which tied her for 57th among the 144 golfers in the field and advanced her to the 64-player Match Play bracket. There, the #60 Galivants Ferry, S.C. native put up a battle against fifth-seeded Allison Goodman of San Diego, Calif., battling back to take a lead late in the round before falling 2-up in her match.
Maness was this year's Big South Conference Freshman of the Year and also the Big South Tournament's Medalist, leading CCU to a runner-up finish.
