CONWAY - Junior Brittany Henderson will represent the Coastal Carolina women's golf team at the 2012 NCAA Central Regional May 10-12, on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. Henderson earned an individual at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after capturing individual medalist honors at the 2012 Big South Championship.
Henderson, an All-Big South Conference selection in each of her three years at Coastal Carolina, is making her third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals and first as an individual.
The native of Smiths Falls, Ontario, closed the regular season by setting the Big South Championship all-time low round with a 68 on the second day of play and the tournament's all-time 54-hole score with a 2-under 241 (75-68-71 - 241) in Ninety Six, S.C., April 9-11. In addition to winning medalist honors, Henderson was named an All-Big South honoree by the league's head coaches.
Henderson finished the regular season with Coastal's top stroke average (75.43), which ranks as the fifth-best season average in school history. She produced four top-20 finishes in 10 tournaments, including two top-5 showings.
Henderson, who teed off on her practice round at 7:44 a.m. on Wednesday, will be paired with Leticia Ras-Anderica (Miami) and Gabriella Wahl (East Tennessee) while playing with Florida State, Purdue and Arkansas in first and second-round action on Thursday and Friday. Henderson is scheduled to tee off on Hole No. 10 at 8:55 a.m. for a single round on Thursday. She is set to tee off from Hole No. 1 at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, before playing Saturday's final round with pairings based on scores from the first 36 holes.
Coastal Carolina has been represented in regional competition by the team or an individual in each of the last seven seasons, making team appearances in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Aruka Felgueros represented the Chants as an individual at the East Regional in 2007 and again in 2008 at the Central Regional.
Henderson is one of 378 participants from around the country selected for regional competition. Eight teams and two individuals from each of three regional tournaments will advance to the championships finals, to be hosted by Vanderbilt May 22-25. She is the only representative of the Big South Conference to compete in the Central Regional.
