CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina senior Jessica Alexander was named the Big South Women's Golfer of the Week for the sixth time of her career after winning the M&F Bank Intercollegiate, an event that featured five of the nation's top 50 programs.
Thanks to her win this past week, Alexander is now ranked 92nd in the nation according to Golfstat and 95th by Golfweek.
Alexander recorded the best 54-hole score of her career as she set the Coastal Carolina record with a three-day tally with an 8-under 208. She played each round under par, posting scores of 70-67-71. Her second round 67 was her second in the 60s this season and the eighth of her career. In addition to her low round totals, the Riverview, Fla., native led the 96-competitor field in par-5 scoring at 5-under, while playing the par-3s at 2-under and the par-4s at even-par.
The win is the second in Alexander's career, who also won the 2011 Big South Championship with scores of 75-78-72=225. Moreover, Alexander has posted top 10 finishes in six of Coastal's 11 events this season.
Alexander's victory led Coastal to the M&F Bank Intercollegiate team title with an all-time Chanticleer-best 54-hole score of 1-under 863. The Chanticleers are currently ranked 39th by Golfstat and 42nd by Golfweek.
Coastal now turns its focus to the 2013 Big South Championship hosted at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. The 54-hole tournament gets underway on April 14 and concludes on the 16th.
