MCCALLA, ALA. -- The Coastal Carolina women's golf team is tied for third through the second round of the 2006 PUPS/PDPS Big South Conference Championship, Apr. 11. The three-round tournament is being played at the Bent Brook Golf Course (Par 72 - 6,184 yards) in McCalla, Ala., Apr. 10-12, with the winner earning the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
The defending champion and second-seeded Lady Chanticleers struggled on the second day and shot 311 to post a 36-hole total of 618, tied with High Point. Top-seed and host Birmingham-Southern leads at 599 after a tournament-best 298 in the second-round. The Panthers lead third seed Winthrop by five shots, as the Eagles are currently at 504.
Freshman Ann Maness (Galivants Ferry, S.C./Aynor) shot a one-over 73 in the second round and is tied for fourth at 149. Junior Katy Heher (Nichols, S.C./Pee Dee Academy) is tied for eighth at eight-over 152, while senior Lindsey Letzig (Richmond, Mo./Richmond) is tied for 16th at 158.
The Lady Chanticleers will play the final round with Bucknell and Radford Wed., Apr. 12.
