Women's Golf In Second After Opening Round of PUPS/Big South Championship

GREENWOOD, SC – Coastal Carolina’s women’s golf squad is in second place after the first round of the 2005 Palmetto Utility Protection Service (PUPS) Big South Conference Golf Championships, Mon., Apr. 11. The tournament is being played at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Greenwood, S.C.

Second-seeded Birmingham-Southern grabbed the first round lead with a 291, leading the top-seeded Lady Chanticleers by five shots at 296. High Point is in third at 301 and is the only other team within 10 shots of the lead after 18 holes.

Shelly McGraw leads three Birmingham-Southern golfers in the top five, as she leads individually with a two-under 70, one shot better than CCU’s Katy Heher. Coastal’s Line Cordes, the 2005 Big South Player of the Year, is in third with an even-par 72, while Natalie Cruse is tied for ninth at 76 and Lindsey Letzig is tied for 12th at 77.

The second round of the 54-hole event tees off at 8:30 a.m., Tue. Apr. 12, with the final 18 to be played  Wed., Apr. 13, also starting at 8:30 a.m.
