CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's Brittany Henderson was named the Big South Golfer of the Week for her league-leading third-place finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational, the conference office announced on Friday.
The weekly honor is the second for Henderson this season (Feb. 16) and the third of her career.
Henderson led Coastal Carolina to a third-place team finish in the 18-team field at the Briar's Creek Invitational (par-71, 6,088-yards) that included six teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 50. The senior placed third overall in the 96-competitor field, carding scores of 71-74-76=221 (+5). She fired the low round over the first 18 holes and also led the field after 36 holes of competition. In addition, she led all competitors with 38 pars, while also pacing the field in par-4 scoring at a combined 4-over. Moreover, her first round 71 was one of only eight rounds completed under par of the 288 total rounds played.
The top five finish was her second of the season and the seventh of her Chanticleer career. The Smiths Fall, Ontario, holds a career scoring average of 76.21, ranking third-best in Chanticleer history.
Henderson and the Chanticleers return to the links on April 5-7 at the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss. The event will be the Chants' final tune-up before the Big South Championship, which takes place April 14-16 in Ninety-Six, S.C.
