Women's Golf Ties for 15th at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

More Information:

ATHENS, GA. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf squad tied for 15th at the 2009 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, March 29. The rain-shortened tournament was played on the University of Georgia Golf Course (Par 72 – 6,335 yards) in Athens, Ga.

After rain washed out the first two rounds of the nationally-renowned event, the final and only round of the 18-team event was played under very wet conditions on Sunday. With 14 teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation, the Chanticleers faced a stiff test but still managed to tie for 15th with No. 14 Michigan State at 30-over 318. No. 7 Auburn took home the team title with a 11-over 299, with No. 28 Kent State and No. 6 Alabama tying for second at 14-over 302.

Junior Aruka Felgueroso and senior Jessica Vincent led the Chanticleers, tying for 30th at 5-over 77, with senior Ann Maness next it a tie for 67th at 81. Sophomores Alicia Grier (83) and Carmen Jones (86) rounded out the Coastal Carolina effort, tying for 79th and 91st, respectively. Alabama’s Kathleen Ekey took medalist honors at 3-under 69.

The Chants return to the course Monday-Tuesday, April 6-7 at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Club in Gainesville, Fla.
