CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University's Lena Schaeffner was named the Big South Golfer of the Week for her team-leading second-place (tied) finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational, the conference office announced on Thursday.

The Golfer of the Week honor is Schaeffner's second of both the 2013-14 athletic season and her career.

Schaeffner tied for runner-up honors out of 93 golfers at the Briar's Creek Invitational (par 72, 6,101 yards) with a 1-over 217 (74-75-68). Her final round 68 is a career-best and helped her to a career-low 54-hole score of 217. The round of 68 was Schaeffner's second career round in the 60s and eighth under-par round of her career. Schaeffner's runner-up finish on the individual leaderboard was her second of the season and third of her career.

The Rettigheim, Germany, native holds a 74.42 scoring average through 24 rounds of competition this season. Should her scoring average hold through the remainder of the season, she will rank among Coastal Carolina all-time top-five. Moreover, her 75.83 career scoring average over the course of 58 rounds ranks third-best on the CCU all-time list.

Schaeffner and the Chanticleers return to the links April 4-6 to defend their team title at the Ole Miss-hosted M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate
