Women's Golf Tied for 12th After First Round of Liz Murphey
ATHENS, GA. -- The Coastal Carolina women's golf team is tied for 12th after the first round of the nationally-renowned Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, Fri., Mar. 24. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the University of Georgia Golf Club (Par 72 - 6,228 Yards) in Athens, Ga.
The Lady Chanticleers shot 320 in the opening round, tying with Mississippi State and Alabama in 12th, with just nine shots separating sixth from 12th. Wake Forest leads the team race with 298 in the first round, three shots better than host Georgia at 301, while Vanderbilt is in third at 305.
Freshman Ann Maness (Galivants Ferry, S.C./Aynor) leads Coastal with a 77 in the opening round to tie for 26th. Senior Lindsey Letzig (Richmond, Mo./Richmond) is next for Coastal in a tie for 42nd with a 79. Georgia has three of the top five individuals, led by individual leader Jackie Beers with a three-under 69, holding a three-shot lead after 18 holes.
The second round of the tournament will be played Sat., Mar. 25, with the final 18 played on Sun., Mar. 26.
