Women's Golf In 14th Through Two Rounds of UNLV Spring Invitational

            LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team improved 26 shots on its opening round and is currently in 14th at the nationally-renowned UNLV Spring Invitational, Mar. 10. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is the spring opener for the Chanticleers and is being played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club (Par 72 - 6,234 yards) in Las Vegas, Nev.

            After posting a 330 in tough conditions on the opening day, Coastal Carolina battled back and improved 26 shots in the second round to shoot 304 and finish with two-round total of 634. Host No. 34 UNLV, one of five ranked teams in the field, is leading at 595, with Texas Tech two shots behind in second. No. 8 Georgia is currently third at 604.

            The Chanticleers are led by senior Ann Maness, who posted her second straight round in the 70s with a 2-over 74 and is currently tied for 22nd at 8-over 152. Junior Aruka Felgueroso fired an even-par 72 in the second 18, the best of the tournament for Coastal Carolina, and moved up to a tie for 37th at 155. Sophomore Alicia Grier is next for the Chants in a tie for 73rd at 162, while sophomore Carmen Jones (165) and senior Jessica Vincent (171) are tied for 81st and in 94th, respectively. Currently three players are tied for the individual lead at even-par 144, Natalie Gleadall of Nebraska, Georgia's Marta Silva and Ulrika van Niekerk of Texas Tech.

            The final round will be played Wed., Mar. 11 with the Chants going off No. 10 with Fresno State and Idaho, starting at 8:18 a.m.
