CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina golfer Brittany Henderson has been named the Big South Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for her efforts at the spring season-opening UCF Challenge, the league office announced on Thursday.
Henderson, the individual medalist at the 2012 Big South Championship, finished tied for eighth among the 99 competitors at the annual UCF Challenge. The Smiths Falls, Ontario, native placed ahead of eight of Golfstat's top-100 ranked individuals. The top-10 finish was her second of the season and 15th of her Chanticleer career.
The senior opened the tournament with a 2012-13 season-best score of 2-under par 70. She then shot 73 on the final two rounds, finishing the tournament at even-par with a 54-hole tally of 216. In all, Henderson carded 12 birdies and 33 pars over the three days of competition at the par-72, 6,374-yard Redtail Golf Club.
The player of the week honor is the second of Henderson's career.
Henderson and the Chants return to the links on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a one-day match against San Francisco at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. Two days later Coastal will begin competition in the Cal Classic at Ruby Hill.
