Women's Golf Second after Two Rounds at FSU Match Up
Feb. 9, 2018
Tallahassee, Fla. -
It was a strong first day of action for the women's golf team at Coastal Carolina as the Chanticleers shot a two-round total 8-under parf (568).
The 568 is one shot off the previous 36-hole record of 567 shot last October at the Pinehurst Challenge, the 8-strokes under par is also one stroke off the best 36-hole score, which was also set at the Pinehurst Challenge last October.
With predicted rain in the area, there was a change in play as the organizers cut the Florida State Match Up to a two-day event instead of a three-day tournament with the teams playing 36 holes today and 18 holes Saturday.
The Chants are in second place, six strokes back of in-state neighbor, South Carolina, who leads the event after shooting a 15-under (561).
Marie Lunackova is the leading golfer for CCU. She finished the day with a 6-under 138 (69-69). Marie's scores of 69 are the lowest of her career. It's the first time she has broken 70 and her two-round total of 138 is also a career-best. She will enter tomorrow's final round in second place just three strokes back of USC's Ainhoa Olarra.
One player always near the top is CCU's Malene Krolboll Hansen, and it is no different at this tournament. Hansen finished the two rounds with a 5-under 139 (69-70). Her 69 is the 12th round she has shot in the 60's during her career and with both rounds under par, she now has 46 rounds under par. Hansen is tied for third going into tomorrow's action.
Sophomore Stephanie Henning had her best outing of her short career. She finished with a one-over par 145 (72-73) which is the best two-day score in her career. Henning had the lone eagle for the Chanticleers on the day, as she had a three on her final hole of the day. She is tied for 21st going into the final round.
Frantiska Lunackova had a solid day shooting a two-over 146 (74-72). She is tied for 28th after today's action. Sena Ersoy also had a solid day. Her two-round total is a four-over 148 (75-73) and she enters tomorrow's final round tied for 33rd.
