Feb. 5, 2018

Conway - Coastal Carolina University's women's golf team will jump back into action as the spring portion of the schedule begins this week at the Fifth Annual Florida State Women's Match-Up Tournament.

The three-day event will be held at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. The tournament will consist of 54 holes at the 6,212 yards, par-72 course.

A different type of format was used at the Match-Up as invitations were sent out to six teams and those teams contacted a team of their choice to partner up with them at the tournament.

The tournament partners are as follows: Florida State/Texas A&M, South Carolina/Virginia, Missouri/Coastal Carolina, Columbia/Princeton, Notre Dame/Kentucky and Minnesota/Michigan State.

The tournament includes seven teams ranked among the top-50 teams in the nation in the latest GolfStat rankings. Leading that group is seventh-ranked South Carolina. Michigan State is ranked 13th followed by 16th-ranked Virginia.

Texas A&M enters the competition ranked 30th and host Florida State is 31st. Rounding out the top-50 participants are Notre Dame (37) and Kentucky (50).

Coastal Carolina is ranked 75th entering the weekend and the other teams in the event are Missouri, Columbia, Princeton and Minnesota.

Not only are there top-ranked teams in the tournament, there are several of the top-ranked individuals playing. CCU's Malene Krolboll Hansen has a national ranking of 47 entering the event. Other top players are Sarah Brunham (11th) from Michigan State and Maddie Szeryk (18th) from Texas A&M.

There will be a practice round Thursday, Feb. 8, with the tournament running Friday Feb. 9 through Sunday Feb. 11. The first two rounds will have the 12 teams tee off in twosomes, consisting of partner teams, while the third round will be a shotgun start with teams of three.
