AUSTIN, Texas – Fueled by a pair of top-eight individual finishes, the Coastal Carolina women’s golf team sits in first place after one day and two rounds of the Challenge at Onion Creek from the Onion Creek Country Club.
The Chanticleers finished the day with a score of 574 after turning in rounds of 293 and 281 on the par-70, 5947-yard course. Coastal sits one stroke ahead of both Iowa State and Michigan.
Sophomore Jessica Alexander finished day one tied for fifth place after carding a career-low 68 in round two. The Riverview, Fla., native collected five birdies in the second round and surpassed her previous career-low by two strokes. Alexander started the day with a 73 in the first round and ended her afternoon with an overall score of 141.
Senior Alicia Grier was second for Coastal and tied for eighth overall with a two-round score of 142. Grier opened the day with a 73 before finishing the her afternoon with a career-low 69 in the second round, which included consecutive birdies on holes 11, 12 and 13.
Freshman Courtney Boe is tied for 16th with an overall score of 145 after posting rounds of 74 and 71. Sophomore Brittany Henderson is tied for 23rd after two rounds of 73 en route to an overall score of 146, while junior Kaitlin Higginbotham rounded out the Chants with a score of 149 (76-73) and is tied for 35th place.
Day three of the tournament resumes Tuesday morning.
