Women's Golf Finishes 12th at Susie Maxwell Berning Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team carded a final round 311 to finish the three-day Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with a score of 918 to place 12th in the 17-team field.

The event, featuring six nationally-ranked teams, concluded the Chants' fall portion of their schedule and was played at the Par 72, 6327-yard Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Club.

The host and 23rd-ranked Sooners won the event with a 54-score of 878, edging No. 32 Texas Tech by one stroke. The Chants 12th-place finish was one better than 37th-ranked Michigan.

Kaitlin Higginbotham turned in three rounds of 76, moving up from 40th to a tie for 32nd with a 54-hole score of 228. Brittany Henderson dropped four spots into a tie for 36th after shooting a final-round 79 and finishing at 229 (78-72-79).

Frida Castillo birdied her 16th and 17th hole on Tuesday, before finishing with a bogey and a five-over par 77. Her three-day total of 230 (78-75-77) moved the freshman up 15 spots into a tie for 42nd. Rounding out Coastal's contingent were Jessica Alexander and Eugenia Guerra. Alexander tied for 62nd with a total of 234 (79-75-80) and Guerra's final day 79 helped Coastal to its one stroke finish over Michigan and the junior tied for 70th overall (77-80-79=236).

Coastal will return to action Feb. 12-14 to play in the UCF Invitational.
