Women's Golf Sets School Record; Hansen Finishes Second
The Coastal Carolina women's golf team shot an even par 288 on the final day of the Pinehurst Challenge. The Chanticleers three-day total of nine-under 855 (285-282-288) set a school record for a 54-hole tournament surpassing the former record of 863 (-1) at the M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate set in 2013.
CCU finished second in the event to East Carolina who won the event for the second consecutive season.
Malene Krolboll Hansen shot a two-over 74 during the final day of action to finish second in the event with a seven-under 209 (68-67-74). She was only two strokes off her school record 207 she set last season (2016) at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. She finished second overall at the event one shot back.
CCU had another top-10 finisher as freshman Frantiska Lunackova, playing only her second collegiate match, shot a one-under 71 to complete play with a three-under par 213 (71-71-71). She finished tied for 10th overall.
Stephanie Henning had a solid day shooting a one-under 71 and finished with a 224 (79-74-71). She moved up 17 spots during the final day with her under par scoring and finished tied for 56th.
The Chanticleers will finish up the fall portion of the schedule Oct. 27-29 when they travel to Atlanta to participate in the Ladies Fall Invitational hosted by Louisville. The Invitational will be held at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
