Oct. 9, 2017
Pinehurst, N.C. -
Coastal Carolina's women's golf team finished the first day of action at the Pinehurst Challenge in second place at 9-under, just one stroke behind Challenge-leader East Carolina.
The event hosted two rounds during the first day with CCU shooting a three-under 285 during the first round. CCU was even better with a six-under 282 during the second 18 holes.
Malene Krolboll Hansen is the event's overall leader with a nine-under 135. Hansen shot a four-under 68 in the opening round, which was the second-best 18-hole score of her career. She turned around and topped that with a five-under 67 in the second round.
Hansen owns the school's low round with a 65 during the 2015 season. She has also shot a round of 66 and 68 (twice). Her 67 ties for the third lowest 18-hole score in school history.
Her 135 two-round score ties the school record for the best 36-hole score that was set in 2011 by former Chant Jessica Alexander.
Hansen was not the only Chanticleer to finish the two rounds under par as freshman Frantiska Lunackova finshed the day with a two-under 142. She shot 71's during both rounds and is tied for 12th entering the final day of competition.
Stephanie Henning shot a nine-over 153 (79-74) to finish the day tied for 73rd.
