CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s golf team carded a 17th place finish at the Tar Heel Invitational, played at the par-72 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. The Chanticleers defeated Notre Dame, who ranks in the top 50 of the latest Golf World/Coaches’ poll.

The ninth-ranked LSU Tigers used a final round score of 287 to win the tournament with an eight-under three round score of 284-285-297=856, four strokes better than runner-up and eighth-ranked Alabama (291-288-291=860)

Senior Kaitlin Higginbotham led the Chants to the clubhouse as she tied for 50th overall after posting scores of 74-76-74=224 to shoot eight-over on the 54-hole tournament.

Freshman Frida Castillo along with junior Jessica Alexander and Brittany Henderson tied for 64th with final scores of 226. Castillo shot a three-over par 75 in her final round after carding rounds of 78 and 73 on the first two days. Alexander also shot a 75, over the final 18 holes after shooting rounds of 77 and 74 in the first two days. Henderson was hindered by three bogeys over her final nine holes of the tournament as she finished the event with rounds of 75-74-77.

Eugenia Guerra, a junior, rounded out the Coastal finishers with a 54-hole total of 241 (82-75-84).

The team will return to action Oct. 16-18, traveling to Norman, Okla., to play in the annual Susie Maxwell Classic, hosted by Oklahoma.
