AUSTIN, TEXAS - Marissa Hinchman opened the 2013 edition of The Challenge at Onion Creek with a career-best round of 69 and after a second-round 72, the sophomore sits in second on the individual leaderboard at the par-70, 8,821-yard Onion Creek Original Course.

With Hinchman leading the way, Coastal Carolina is tied for fifth on the team leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 589 (291-298). Texas Tech leads the 11-team field with a two-round score of 582 (291-291), while Kansas, ranked 27th by Golfstat, is in second with a 583 (294-289) score. Hinchman, who opened play on the second hole, was two-over through four holes; however, she steadied to play her next four holes at even par. She then carded back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12 to move back to par. Seven more pars and a birdie on the par-5 18th hole led to her career-best round of 69. Hinchman's second round featured birdies on the 11th and 14th holes, but four bogeys ended her day with a 2-over 72. Her 141 36-hole score is the lowest of her Chanticleer career by five strokes.

Junior stalwart Frida Castillo, appearing in her 25th collegiate tournament, is tied for 15th in the 61-competitor field with a 7-over score of 147. Castillo opened the day with a first-round score of 76 despite sinking two birdie putts. She improved by five strokes over her second round to shoot a 1-over 71. Castillo ended the day with five birdies and 20 pars.
