Knoxville, Tenn. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team opened the 2017-18 season at the Mercedes-Benz Championship hosted by the University of Tennessee.
CCU carded a 20-over 588 (295-293) and stands 11th in the competition as the first day of action saw the participating teams play 36 holes.
In the second round, the Chanticleers actually improved two shots led by first-year player Sena Ersoy, who shot a team-best 1-under 70 in the second round and finished her two-round total of 146 (76-70) which is tied for 30th.
Senior Malene Krolboll Hansen led the Chants with a three-over 145 (72-73) and is tied for 25th after the first two rounds. Marie Lunackova also had a solid outing finished with the same four-over 146 (71-75). She is tied with Ersoy at 30th heading into tomorrow's final round.
Nationally ranked Kent State and Illinois lead the event tied for the lead at 8-under par. Rounding out the top five are Maryland (+5), Brigham Young (+8) and Texas-San Antonio (+9).
Tomorrow's final round will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start and will only be 18 holes. Live hole-by-hole stats can be viewed at Golfstats.com, which will be linked at goccusports.com.
