Castillo Leads Coastal After Two Rounds at Charleston Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Junior Frida Castillo led the Coastal Carolina women's golf team with a 1-over 73 on day two of the season-opening Charleston Classic contested at the par-72, 6,204-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan.
As a team, the Chanticleers shot a 17-over 305 to bring their two-day score to 608 (303-305). Coastal is 17th in the 20 team field. Clemson paces the field with a 567 (285-282) followed by Mississippi State (282-297 - 573). NC State (287-287) and host College of Charleston (289-285) are tied for third with matching 574 team scores.
Castillo is tied for 36th (75-73) in the 108-competitor field. Castillo opened her round playing the front nine at even par. She bookended a pair of pars on 11 and 12 with bogeys on 10 and 13 to head to the 14 tee box at 2-over. She responded by putting for par on 14 followed by a birdie on 15. A bogey on 16 was erased by a birdie on the par-5, 460-yard 18th hole, leaving her 1-over for the round.
Marissa Hinchman, a sophomore, carded a 75 her second time around the course after posting a 74 on day one of the three-day event. Hinchman experienced an up and down day. She tallied a team-high four birdies against only three bogeys; however, a pair of double bogeys led to her 3-over day. She enters the final round tied for 45th overall.
Sophomore Lena Schaeffner finished the round with a 6-over 78, moving her into a tie for 77th with a 36-hole score of 153 (77-78). Schaeffner played the front nine at 1-over, but struggled on the back side of the course. A double bogey on 10 and three additional bogey led to her 78.
Emee Herbert finished her day at 7-over, bringing her two-day score to 159 (80-79). She played the first four holes at 1-under after marking down a birdie on the par-3 third hole. However, she would play the next five holes a combined 5-over. Pars on holes 11-16 steadied her score, but she finished the round double-bogey, bogey, par to post her 79. Herbert is tied for 93rd overall.
Nadia Luttner carded an 80 on the round to bring her 36-hole tally to 157 (77-80). Luttner carded birdies on the par-3 third and 16th holes and sank a total of eight pars put throughout her round. Luttner is tied for 87th on the individual leaderboard.
Coastal concludes the Charleston Classic on Tuesday with the final round of play starting at 8 a.m.
