COLUMBUS, OHIO - Coastal Carolina's Brittany Henderson shot a 9-over par 81 in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday at The Ohio State University Golf Club. The junior is currently in a tie for 78th place heading into Friday's second round.
Henderson, who teed off on the back nine, got off to a rocky start as she played her first six holes at 6-over par. She then went par bogey par on her next three holes to make the turn at 7-over. The Smiths Falls, Ontario, native would bookend a birdie on two with bogeys on one and three before converting three straight par putts. A double-bogey on the 379-yard, par-4 seventh would derail her string of pars; however, she would counter with a par on eight followed by her second and final birdie of the day on the par-4 ninth to close the round with an 81.
Henderson will look to improve her score on Friday as she tees off from the front nine at 1:15 p.m., with the third and final round scheduled for Saturday.
Third ranked Southern California (+10) leads the team competition after day one, with Marina Alex (-2) of Vanderbilt atop the individual leaderboard.
The top eight teams, in addition to the top two individuals in the tournament, will qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., from May 22-25.
Henderson is the first Chanticleer to play as an individual at the NCAA Regionals since Aruka Felgueroso in 2008.
