GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team moved up three spots to 19th through 36 holes of the 2010 NCAA East Regional, May 7. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by East Carolina University, is being played at Ironwood Country Club (Par 72 - 6,321 yards) in Greenville, N.C.
The Chanticleers improved by 11 shots over the first round and fired an 8-over 296 to post a 36-hole score of 27-over 603 and sit in 19th. No. 3 Duke shot a tournament-best 10-under in the second round and moved into the team lead at 8-under 568, two shots better than No. 18 Tennessee in second at 570. No. 11 Pepperdine is third at 571, with No. 29 South Carolina in fourth at 2-under 574. First round leader No. 4 Auburn rounds out the top five at 1-under 575.
For the second-straight day, all five Coastal players were able to post scores in the 70s. Senior Aruka Felgueroso is the top Chant following her second round even-par 72 and is at 3-over 147 in a tie for 44th. Junior Alicia Grier had the squad's best score in the second round with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 55th at 4-over 148. Freshman Taylor Slagle is next in a tie for 93rd at 10-over 154, with freshman Brittany Henderson tied for 99th at 11-over 155. Freshman Jessica Alexander rounds out the scoring at 13-over 157, tied for 110th. Individually there is a four-way tie for the lead as South Carolina's Katie Burnett, Kim Donovan of Duke, Danielle Kang of Pepperdine and Texas Tech's Rosalyn Kim are all at 5-under 139.
Coastal will start its final round at 1:25 p.m., going off No. 1 with Campbell and Stetson. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on those squads will move on to the NCAA Championships in Wilmington, N.C., May 18-21.
