NINETY-SIX, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team finished as runner-up at the 2010 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Lighting, April 12-14. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at The Patriot Golf Club (Par 72 - 5,956 yards) in Ninety-Six, S.C.
The Chanticleers entered the final round trailing by 15 to 36-hole leader Charleston Southern and could not make up the ground, shooting 300 for the day to finish at 904, 23 shots behind the champion Buccaneers. Winthrop University was third at 925, with Radford (929) and Gardner-Webb (938) rounding out the top five.
Individually, senior Aruka Felgueroso finished as the runner-up, finishing at 2-over 218, three shots behind medalist Olivia Jordan-Higgins of Charleston Southern at 215. Freshman Jessica Alexander and junior Alicia Grier tied for 11th at 230, with freshman Brittany Henderson in a tie for 16th at 232. Freshman Taylor Slagle counted for the second straight round with a 76 and finished 18th at 233.
The Chanticleers now will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will be played May 6-8 at one of three Regional sites.
