JOHNS ISLAND - Coastal Carolina University's Lena Schaeffner surged eight spots up the individual leaderboard, tying for runner-up honors at the Briar's Creek Invitational after firing a career-low 68 during the final round. The Chanticleers tied for 12th in the 17-team field, recording a 56-over par 920 (310-311-299).

Schaeffner (74-75-68) tied second honors with South Florida's Ashley Burke (75-72-70) and Maryland's Alexandria Papell (71-74-72) as all three competitors turned in 1-over, 217 54-hole scores. Schaeffner's 68 is tied for the fourth lowest round in CCU women's golf history, while the runner-up finish is the third of the sophomore's career. Moreover, the under-par round was the eighth of her career and her second in the 60s.

Schaeffner, who started her round on the 13th hole, was two under with a pair of birdies through her first nine holes. She scored another birdie on the par-5 seventh hole to move to 3-under before carding her first and only bogey of the day on the par-4 ninth. She then birdied both 10 and 11 before closing out the round with a par for her 68. The Rettigheim, Germany, native tied for second in par-4 scoring through the course of the tournament, playing the holes a combined 1-over.

Texas Tech (299-303-286) won the team title with a 24-over 888 score on the par-72, 6,101-yard The Golf Club at Briar's Creek course. Penn State (309-294-289=892) finished as the team runner-up followed by East Carolina (294-306-294=894). No. 34 GRU Augusta (300-296-299=895) edged out No. 11 Clemson (303-298-298=899) for fourth. Other ranked teams in the field include No. 40 Kansas (308-301-294=903) in seventh, No. 46 Wisconsin (309-303-295=907) and No. 44 East Tennessee State (300-303-304=907) in a tie for eighth and No. 48 Illinois (316-310-293=919) in 11th.

Penn State's Christina Vosters claimed medalist honors, finishing the three-round event with a 1-under 215 (72-75-68).

Emee Herbert turned in her lowest round of the tournament with a 76 and finished tied for 53rd (79-79-76=234). The junior started the day 5-over through her first nine holes, but rebounded to shoot 1-under with two birdies the remainder of the round. Marissa Hinchman also carded a final-round 76 and tied for 62nd (76-86-76=238). Hinchman finished the day with 11 pars and one birdie.

Frida Castillo and Bailey Cocca rounded out Coastal's contingent. Castillo tied for 58th with a 54-hole score of 237 (81-77-79), while Cocca tied for 74th (83-80-79=242).

Coastal returns to the links on April 4-6 to defend its title at the Ole Miss-hosted M&F Bank Rebel Intercollegiate.
